Pre-certification & Co-insurance: Some insurance plans require pre-certification. Additionally, some plans require some amount of “patient responsibility,” e.g. a copay, coinsurance, or may apply a deductible. Our biller will bill your insurance company, and follow up with you by email with an invoice if your insurance determines any amount of “patient responsibility.” In our experience, it is only some plans (25-50% of our clients) that experience a copay/coinsurance/deductible, and the amount typically ranges between $15-75 per appt. Your usual specialist deductible would be a good gauge of the amount you could potentially expect to pay—if anything at all.
Generally, as long as you and the baby both have a form of insurance we accept, the visit should be fully covered, unless your insurance requires a “patient responsibility” amount mentioned above. If you or the baby have different insurance plans, the visit will not be automatically fully covered. The biller bills for both you and the baby as you are technically two separate patients. If you and the baby have different insurance plans, but you both have plans we accept, we can bill both plans. It’s your responsibility to inform us of any insurance changes that may impact our ability to bill insurance.
